Although Windows Explorer doesn't present any serious challenges, navigating through a thick layer of folders can be quite annoying. Fortunately, desktop shortcuts can be created without any difficulties, but it is only a matter of time before the desktop is cluttered with icons. FoldersPopup gives you the possibility of accessing any folder on the hard drive instantly. Instead of browsing through countless folders, you can jump directly to your destination, just by selecting a folder's name in a pop-up menu.

The application is absolutely free and it can be used on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8. Instead of going through an installation process, you only need to download a ZIP archive and extract an executable. The archive contains two executables, for 32 and 64-bit operating systems.

While FoldersPopup is running in the background, you can click the mouse wheel to bring up a new pop-up menu, with shortcuts for default locations, like the Program Files and Windows folders. You can create your own folder shortcuts, by adding the folders to a list, on the application's user interface, which can be displayed through a system tray icon. Folders can be added by selecting them on a standard browsing dialog and you can also insert separators. The order in which you insert and separate your folders will reflect in the aforementioned pop-up menu.

Besides targeting folders, you can also compile a list of supported dialog boxes. FoldersPopup supports a series of dialogs by default, such as Open, Save, Import, Export and others, but you can add new ones yourself, by typing their names or part of them. If a dialog box is added to the list, you can bring up the same pop-up menu and jump to a folder, on that dialog box.

Folders and dialog boxes can be added to FoldersPopup's lists faster, directly from Windows Explorer. Besides folder shortcuts, the pop-up menu contains an option for adding the current folder to the list. The same option can be found when clicking the mouse wheel on a new dialog box. If your mouse doesn't have a wheel, you can access the application's general settings panel and set up your own keyboard shortcuts, for the pop-up menu or other elements.

Pros

You can jump to any folder on the hard drive, by selecting its name in a pop-up menu. The application allows you to add your own folders and insert separators to make them easier to spot. The pop-up menus work for dialog boxes as well.

Cons

There are no obvious functionality gaps that need to be addressed. While using FoldersPopup, you can jump to any location on the hard drive instantly, without filling up your desktop with countless shortcuts.
